A fascinating study from Professor Catherine Haslam (from the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland) on the importance of membership of social groups in reducing social isolation and loneliness. It is copied below but you can download the full pdf file here. The article was published in The Psychologist in May 2018 and Professor Haslam presented her findings at a seminar on The Social Psychology of Social Prescribing at Nottingham Trent University in June 2018. You can find her slide presentation to the seminar here .

The concept of social identity maps, together with the process of creating them collaboratively with the patient, offers a potentially useful tool within Social Prescribing when using Motivational Interviewing to help those suffering from loneliness and social deprivation.
